Configuring NTpage Client

The NTpage Client and Server work together to provide a seamless interface for sending messages to alphanumeric pagers, PCS phones and even standard numeric pagers. The NTpage Client is the software you use to send your messages from any computer on your network. If you are connected to the internet you can even send messages across the internet to your NTpage Server to have it deliver the pages to the paging company.

Before you run the Client the First Time
You will need the following information to configure the client.

If the network protocol you want to use for communicating between the NTpage Client and Server is:

  • TCP/IP
   1.   You need the TCP/IP address of the NTpage Server.
2.   You need the TCP/IP port that NTpage will use, if you have not changed this at the server you can just use the default.

  • Named Pipes
1.   You need the Computer Name of the NTpage Server

Running the Client the First Time
When you run the NTpage Client the first time it prompts for information it needs to communicate with the NTpage Server. The Client communicates with the NTpage Server over your network. The network could be a local area network, wide area network or even the Internet. The Client can communicate with the Server via TCP/IP or Named Pipes. Depending on what protocol you want NTpage to use will require different information in the setup.

Network Communications Test
After you have entered the information and clicked OK the client will automatically do a Network Communications Test to make sure it can communicate with the NTpage Server. This test sends data from the computer you are running the NTpage Client on, over the network to the NTpage Server and then back to the Client. If it is successful it will tell you and then start up the NTpage Client.
Note: You can run a Network Communications Test anytime by clicking the Network Communications Test button on the NTpage Client Properites Window.

IMPORTANT: When installing the NTpage Server you can enable or disable either of the network communication protocols (TCP/IP or Named Pipes). If you have disabled the protocol at the server and you are trying to use that protocol at the client you will not be successful. If you are unable to Test Network Communications successfully, please check that the protocol you are trying to use is enabled at the server. You can check this by using the NTpage Administrator.

You are now ready to send a message!
