Here are a few things you need to have or know before you start the installation of the NTpage Server.
- PIN number of at least one pager
- Phone number of the paging terminal for that pager
- An installed modem
- NTpage License file obtained from the NTpage web site. (http://www.NTpage.com)
|
If you are familiar have or know what these are go ahead and skip this section, if not read this information it will help you in setting up NTpage to work with your paging company.
1. The PIN (Personal Identification Number) or Pager ID of the Alphanumeric Pager.
A Personal Identification Number is a number assigned to each pager by the paging company. Many paging service providers (paging companies) use the numeric number (the number you call to send a numeric page, just a phone number) as the PIN.
| Numeric Number: 555-1212
| | Terminal Number: 800-123-4567
| | PIN: 5551212
| | |
Other paging service providers assign a 5-15 digit number as your PIN:
| Numeric Number: 555-1212
| | Terminal Number: 800-123-4567
| | PIN: 987654
| | |
If you do not know this number, call your paging service provider and ask for it. Due to the explosive growth in the paging industry, new employees are added almost every day. If your customer service representative does not know what your PIN number is, simply ask to speak to their supervisor and they will give it to you.
2. Carrier Access Number
When calling this number, the connection should sound like a fax machine or modem connection. This number will not be the same as your PIN or your numeric number. Ask your service provider for the terminal access number to make a software connection. Some providers refer to this as their modem access number or terminal access number.
This phone number is referred to by many names in the paging industry. If the person you are talking to at the paging company doesn't seem to know what you are talking about tell them you need the phone number for any of the following:
- Paging Terminal Phone Number
- TAP port
- Carrier Access Number
- Alpha port
|
This is the phone number the NTpage Server dials into to transmit the page to the paging service provider.
3. An installed modem
The NTpage Server requires a modem to communicate with the paging company. (The only exception to this is when you are connecting the NTpage Server directly with paging equipment via a serial port connection). Before starting the installation of NTpage you should already have successfully installed a modem in Windows NT.
Once you know this information you are ready to install NTpage. . .
